Go without it, not only will eat trap dried salt, it's also counter-productive because the glass deflects a bunch of the UV and reduces pentration through the water from your lighting system.
you can buy egg crate...(the square stuff in lighting fixtures) at home depot...this can be custom cut for your aquarium. It allows light penetration without trapping heat and salt. It also allows you to keep your fish in the aquarium.

is that plastic i guess i had something else in mind for egg crate so that on top of my tank will be the only thing between my lights and the water this will be ok

Personally I like a glass top and have no reason not to have one. I would not leave your light exposed either.
Your lights would be fine open air, I suspended 380 watts of VHO over a 55 for a couple of years with no problems. I hung it from the ceiling with some plastic chain available at garden centers.

My lights are also mounted over open water . . . no problems. Just make sure that they are high enough that they wont get splashed or anything. And once in a while give the bulbs a quick wipe with a wet rag. When they are off and cold obviously.
A glass top is just a bad idea IMO.
