Salt mix

Hi

I have a 120 gallon aquarium, with the refugium and all filter i would say it is about 135 gallons. I was using an online calculator to measure out the correct amount of salt to keep my specific gravity at 31 or 30. I used this link for the calculator.

it say about 9 lbs of salt if i am doing a 30 gallon water change. I am using instant ocean as my salt mix, does 9 lbs sound right?

Thank You

I just add it till the specific gravity is right then let it mix overnight and test and adjust before I do the water change. Salt mix is hydroscopic so it absorbs moisture which affects the weight. Closest I've ever done to a formula is 1 cup per 2 gallons and that is to get me close then I fine tune it with my refractometer.

Agreed, 1 cup salt mix per 2 gallons of filtered cold water and then use a refractometer to adjust to your desired salinity.
