I was told reef crystals dissolves very fast. A friend is using it and he loves reef crystals. I leaning toward getting a bucket and giving it a try.

The first 18 months of my reef was all Instant Ocean. I was constantly adjusting Alk and Ca. Switched to Reef Crystals and now basically water changes and some Alk adjustment weekly and Ca monthly.

isn't reef crystals made by IO? i know that IO doesn't have the best rep, but i've never used either product.

Yes Reef Crystals is made by Same Manufacturer as Instant Ocean. As far as I know IO works great for most salt situations, but a reef system has more demanding aspects. So that is why they beefed up Ca, Alk, Mg, and other levels and came up with Reef Crystals.

I started with Oceanic and switched to Tropic Marin Pro Reef and found the same issues only it cost more. Calcium to high, Alk to low. After this bucket of TM pro reef is gone I am getting Reef Crystals to see if that is any better but at least it is way cheaper.

I've been using ReefCrystals since about 98.......I've switched several times trying to find that "magic" mix....... Oceanic...Seachem.....IO....Tropic Marin Pro, RedSea, Kent, and have always come back to ReefCrystals....I have found of lately very inconsistent batches of salt.....High Ca, low Alk.......Not typical of ReefCrystals.....

I've noticed this, too. CA and Alk have been low the last few bags I've had. Hopefully this isn't a sign of a bigger problem...
