Salt

I haven't gotten any reviews from it yet to tell you if I like it or not.
The only salts that I currently like are Tropic Marin (of course), Oceanic (which I use on my tank), and Sera.

I use Red Sea as well. When I set up my tank initially, I used Oceanic because it came with the kit I bought, but I slowly switched over to Red Sea because it was cheaper. I don't really have any problems with it. :)

I am using Oceanic right now, just started a 2nd bucket of it. So far I really like the results. I didn't get results like this from instant ocean, tropic marine or even reef crystals.

Actually I somehow double posted, and changed tropic marine to crystal sea. I only had one slight problem with tropic marine once, nothing major, its a good salt but I only used it a few times.

I started with Instant Ocean and have no complaints....the bucket I'm using now(nearly gone) is Oceanic. Other than magnesium around 1600 I have no problems with the Oceanic....but I believe I'll go back to the Instant Ocean when this bucket is empty.

I tried the following salt; when I first set up, I started with Instant Ocean, which I didn't have any complaints with. My water parameters stayed good and everything was thriving.
I heard that Oceanic was better, so I tried a bag of that, the only difference I noticed with that (besides being more expensive) was the calcium levels always were 500 (maybe more) per salifert test kit.
From there I was going to switch back to Instant Ocean, but decided to give Red Sea a try (which I am using now). My calcium levels have dropped to 380, my corals went into distress, I am adding a calcium supplement to get the levels back up. I am going out today to get bag of Instant Ocean. Now that I've tried a few, I believe I will stick with that. The price isn't bad, my tank occupants thrived well on it.. I guess what they say is true, if it ain't broke. Don't fix it...

I've only ever used instant ocean so I guess I have no basis for comparison, but I never had any problems that I could relate to a salt problem.

Lets keep this one alive. So many brands to pick from, what does everyony like and why? Whats the absolute best out there? Every LFS says something different. I liked Reef Cyrstals, but having a time time finding it now.

I started with the oceanic salt. and then switched to instant ocean. The only thing i notice besides the calcium level dropping off a bit is that the oceanic was a finer grain salt so i found it to dissolve easier. but thats it they are both o.k. for me

I set up my tank using red sea, per my lsf but I just did a water change with instant ocean. (I am so new at this.) Is it ok to do water changes with different salt brands. Also , I test for ammonia, ph, nitrate , nitrite and of course salinty but I do not test for calcium. Should I be?
Thanks

What type of a tank do you plan to keep? will it have inverts, corals, ect. if so it is important to test for calcium. many of them need it to grow and be healthy.
