I can tell you this much - NEVER use the big box store brand salts. I bought a bucket of it and had nothing but problems. I ended up mixing it with Instand Ocean 2 to 1 with 2 parts Instant Ocean and one part the big box store brand. I finally witnessed some stability and swore I'd never go cheap again. The stress to MYSELF not to mention my tanks just wasn't worth it.

Hey Merredeth, I believe Deathco also sell Instant Ocean and a few other brands. I have even seen Oceanic, Red Sea, Reef Crystals, and Tropic Marin sold there. It's the same way at Petsdumb or at least here in Tucson.

Yeah, they both sell the name brands but the 'house' brand of one bog box chain touted on the bucket that it was used for many public aquariums. I stupidly thought it would be okay because aquariums will have some of the rarer or harder to keep fish.
I was soooooo stupid to believe the marketing crap!
About as bad as believing most LFS (excluding the one here in Fort Dodge).
