i was curious what brand of salt people are using?? i have been using and am almost out of red sea brand salt. i also want to mention that i tested a fresh batch i made up for a water change and found the magnesium only measured at 1000ppm. i tested the new batch only because i couldn't seem to get my calcium level up and found my display tank at 1000ppm as well. so i guess my real ?? is what is a brand of salt which contains all the right trace elements?? thanx in advance...walt

Ask 100 reefers about salt and you will get 100 different answers. No one salt is perfect and once you find one that works for you, stick with it.
I use Tropic Marin and am very happy with it. It too is low in magnesium so I dose some MgCl2 every once in a while.
I keep two tanks, a 20G softie reef and a mixed 75G SPS, LPS & softie reef. Both are doing very well.

thanx for the responses. i looked on a link and found that instant ocean reef crystals have higher levels of trace elements and magnesium and higher calcium levels as well so i think i'll go that route from here on .it's formulated especially for reef systems.

Reef Crystals
I've used Tropic Marin and Instant Ocean as well but I seem to get the best results from the Reef Crystals.

Dear hobbyist ,I've tried Tropic Marine and Instant Ocean salt mixes , and between the two , I think that Instant Ocean is best in my opinion .

I have used instant ocean for about 6 years, liked it very much. Got into corals, and clams about 2.5 yrs ago and switched over to reef crystals. I won't use anything else. I have been extremely pleased with the results, and the stability.

I use Instant Ocean but find the calcium a bit low. It works for me because I dose 2-part and occasionally drip kalkwasser. Like stated below, use what works for your tank.
