just a quick question,
if you mix some salt in a contaner that is the same salinity of your tank, when you pour it in, the salinity should remain the same in your tank right?

You must also ensure the temps are the same...temp will affect the salinity or specific gravity....

If you mix 5 gal of fresh salt water and match the SG/temp to the water in your display then before adding the new 5 gal to your display "remove" 5 gal of old water...then yes the SG in your display should be the same.If you just add 5 gal of new water that matchs the SG & temp of your display without first removing 5 gal then your SG will go up.Just thought that should be noted!
