Saltwater Ick, Parasite Problem Solution For Ever...

We had an outbreak of ich in my DT. We tried to medicate the DT with no success. Everything but the Chromisis (sp??) died. Those were hard little fella's to get out. We took all the chromisis out to a QT tank. (got new fish and stuck them in the QT) Along with other problems we had in the QT, our maroon clown got Brookenella and died. Our angel is still alive, but has that visrus that never goes away (cant think of the name off the top of my head). anyways, after 8 weeks of leaving the DT empty, we finally put our angel fish and 3 Chromisis back into the tank. All was well. about 2 weeks ago, my husband bought a yellow tang that had been at the LFS for about 2 months who was healthy and had no signs of any disease. It was an impromptu uy so we had no QT set up. SO he put it straight into the DT. It's hard to tell on the yellow - but i'm quite certain he has ich. and GOOD LUCK on getting him out of that DT to get him into QT. Angel is also all discolored and acting stressed.
The lady at the LFS told us it would be ok to put the yellow tang into our DT because she had had him for so long now.
I give up. If someone could tell me a good DT method, that would be great. But I can't catch any of those fish in my big tank to get them into the QT. My husband has given up completely and wont help me. I don't know what to do. :(

I've heard a strain of Ich was identified that was still able to reproduce at 1.009. It's still very rare though. That's the only think I've heard.

Kornele, why don't you cut and paste your post to a new thread. That way you can get help without getting bogged down in the ongoing debate here.

WFD..Thanks for posting the thread. I just spent a good 45 minutes reviewing multiple topics. This is an excellent reference source and I would suggest everyone visit the site. Concise, easy to read, referenced where appropriate.

I book marked for future reference

This is a typical article that many use as the 'bible' for describing ich and its stages. However, it's interesting that all these studies were done between 28 years (1979) and 12 years (1994) ago. I'd be curious to see if any of these experts that are listed in the references have tried to test these ich medicines everyone is trying to use now to see if they are just as effective as hypo and copper.

great link there. I think metronidazole has been around for for a long time. I was also wondering if hypo will kill flukes too. I see alot of fish stores around there that have flukes(have bought two fish with flukes) One more thing about ick. I notice my trigger had some white spots so lfs told me to use marine max and a fresh water drip.(This tank has a uv on it) I fixed the problem. So i got a puffer that had a couple of spot that look to be ick. I try the same thing and NO luck.(no uv here) I did hypo and he's looking good now. I was all for meds. at one time but the longer i do this the better i see it is not to use drugs. ( i think my fish over the years have had everything). Now the only med (may not even be a drug)i put in my tank is marine max. I just add a little here and there. Not sure if it even does anything but ever since it or something cleared up the trigger i like the stuff. If fish has wound or pop eye then i will use antibiotics. I think a person should do what works best for them. Some thing work on one fish and don't work on a another fish. For ick hypo. works great. good luck all.
