Saltwater or Reef Salt?

Hello Saltwaterfish community,
I will be starting up a tank very soon and was wondering since I'll be adding coral (down the road) should I just use basic salt or reef salt? Thanks for all your support. :)

I have a soft coral only tank

I use Reef salt. I've found this maintains my parameters and removes the need for dosing IF I water change regularly.

I also believe if you spend extra money on Reef salt you'll save money on how much you need to dose your tank if you have more than a few simple soft corals. Also saves maintencae tasks. Also, if you use a quality Reef salt like Red Sea you'll be dosing some essential elements too in your salt mix

I think until you are close to going from all fish to reef you are fine with regular salt. Once you get ready to add coral start doing water changes with reef salt. Reef salt won't hurt to use for fish only.
I'd be thinking, at this point, more about lighting. Planning and research is key to a successful salt water tank. Lighting is expensive but essential to coral. You need better lighting with the correct wavelengths of light for coral. The kind of coral you want will dictate how intense your lights need to be. You may save a couple bucks on regular vs reef salt but reef lighting will cost you quite a bit more than what you can use for fish only you don't want to buy lights twice.
