Sammy, I got a yellow tree sponge today. Was careful with acclimation. Small part exposed for one second sliding into tank.
My question is lighting and current. How much light will they tolerate and how much current do they like.
If anyone else has experience also, please jump right in with suggestions.

Thanx

Yes, just like that, but not that many branches. That one is beautiful.
So how do you keep it? Looks like it's out in the open, not in shady spot.

GEEZ, now that I went back to your post and took a look at the whole picture, that thing is HUGE!! You have alot of light in your tank, it tolerates it ok? What are you feeding it? And how big was it when you first got it?

the majority of sponges (all except two i believe) are non photosynthetic, therefore they will survive in any lightign condition. the one thing that you must remember is to feed them and to feed them a variety of microscopic (planktonic) foods often!
good luck and congrats on the new aquisition!

Marco, sorry, forgot about your question. I think you must be talking about my smaller tank in regards to protein skimmer. If so, the filter/protein skimmer is built into the back of tank. There's a false back on the tank with overflows drilled thru the top, so water skims off the top into the filter system, up thru the protein skimmer, then thru a bio-bale thru another sponge-type filter and back into tank.
It's 18 gallons. I got it off of e bay. It's all acrylic with acrylic canopy with 48W pc's (50/50 and daylight bulbs). it's a great little set up.

Funny I got it yesterday, 8.00 at the LFS, my buddy put it on the side for me, I have others in my tank too,as you see the red sponge in the front, they like lots of flow, I feed Dts Phytoplanton and a mix I make up of dissovled organics for the whole tank , what I have found with this kind of sponge is that red slime algae will kill it off, clogs the pores of the sponge, sufficates it , so watch your water quality, low phosphates is a must, good luck:)
