Well my samsung 3yrs old 56" DLP after great picture and sound, EXPLODED! So after contacting SAMSUNG they said that it might be the DLP BULB, SO I ordered a bulb from SAMSUNG at $200 plus shipping. I am savy enough to get back there, take the old one out and replace it with the new one. So I go to turn the TV ON... NOTHING, NADA! I am so pissed.. SO I call SAMSUNG and they are telling me then it is a problem with the light engine and that the L.E. unit costs about $1000 not including shipping and then installation so we are looking at around $1500 total.. DAMN, Im like wtf I might as well just get another set. So as a last ditch effort I called the place where I bought it from and asked then If they service TV'S and they told me yes and that they could send out a tech... So a few days later the tech comes out and gets in the back of the set.. inspects the bulb,, Thats NOT IT, Looks and takes out the LIGHT ENGINE UNIT... which is pretty much of a project, Takes it out and im expecting him to tell me I need a whole new unit, BUT upon further inspection, he takes it apart a little and there are GLASS fragments everywhere. Im like what the heck is that? He opens it up and the COLOR WHEEL is in a million pieces, I dont know exactly what a color wheel does but it is really important. So now he has to order a colorwheel from SAMSUNG.. $200 damage including shipping.. The guy just got here put in the NEW color wheel.. and VOILA TV good as new.. SO total damage $200 for the first DLP lamp which I will keep because I heard that they always take a crap. $60 for the first diagnosis service call, $200 for the new color wheel and $200 installation about 40 minutes..= $660 vs the $1500 for the NEW LIGHT ENGINE.. for a 3yr old set.. I THINK? I got off pretty good vs buying a whole new set... BUT I am STILL an advocate of SAMSUNG DLP sets!
