When are we going to hold politicians responsible for their actions?
Slaying suspect once found sanctuary in S.F.
Jaxon Van Derbeken, Chronicle Staff Writer
The man charged with killing a father and two sons on a San Francisco street last month was one of the youths who benefited from the city’s long-standing practice of shielding illegal immigrant juveniles who committed felonies from possible deportation, The Chronicle has learned.
Edwin Ramos, now 21, is being held on three counts of murder in the June 22 deaths of Tony Bologna, 48, and his sons Michael, 20, and Matthew, 16. They were shot near their home in the Excelsior district when Tony Bologna, driving home from a family picnic, briefly blocked the gunman’s car from completing a left turn down a narrow street, police say.
Ramos, a native of El Salvador whom prosecutors say is a member of a violent street gang, was found guilty of two felonies as a juvenile - a gang-related assault on a Muni passenger and the attempted robbery of a pregnant woman - according to authorities familiar with his background.
In neither instance did officials with the city’s Juvenile Probation Department alert federal immigration authorities, because it was the city agency’s policy not to consider immigration status when deciding how to deal with an offender. Had city officials investigated, they would have found that Ramos lacked legal status to remain in the United States.
Federal authorities, however, also missed an opportunity to take Ramos into custody just this past March - after they had learned of his immigration status and started deportation proceedings, and after Ramos was arrested in San Francisco on a gun charge. For reasons the federal agents cannot explain, they did not put an immigration hold on Ramos.
I'm sick of our citizens paying the price for the actions of politicians.

This is a problem.. however much of it is political in nature, as well as a problem with our justice and policing system. The illiegal alien problem has many facets. Yes, many illiegals send money back to their home country. This is not just our friends south of the border, but also the Carribbean, Asia, Africa, etc... It does effect our economy because of the loss of taxes that are being paid. There are also working violations because employers mistreat these people. One of the major problems is organized crime, and crime in general. MS-13 is the largest and most violent street gang, and not to mention 1/2 of California's inmates are illiegal.
The problem I have is this... our gov't has no solutions for the southern border. It needs to be secured... but not for the reasons they say... It is not really a terrorist entrance place... the things that cross the border are drugs and people looking to cross over for jobs and opportunity.
They say the northern borders are much more likely to the route terrorist would take to enter our borders... We also don't account for all the illegals who enter our country from the north.... Why is that? In many ways I think the resentment for people of latin or hispanic decent, is that some Americans are fearful that this will be a "brown" nation which is why we are suggesting that english be the national language and requirement.
With all that said... there needs to be some kind of system in place that will procecute these illegals for the crimes they commited and to punish them, but also to deport them... with keeping costs and tax dollars in mind. There also have to be better agreements w/ foreign countries when it comes to these situations.

the above is speculation on your part with nothing to back it up. unless of course you stood on the border and interviewed the estimated million people that are crossing back and forth every year to find out what their intentions are. an *estimate* of 12 million have illegally crossed the southern border and you don't think even one of those has come over with bad intentions?? it only takes 19 people with bad intentions to wreck havoc, we found that out already. "they say" northern borders are more likely route for terrorists? lmao, they also said that Mohammed Atta's Visa was approved 6 months after he flew a plane into the WTC. so yeah, I really put a lot of faith in what "they say".

my thought is, and im sure there will be backlash is:
you commit a violent crime, you are now subject to the laws of our country, including capital punishment.
remember that guy that f'd up in singapore, and got lashed? good for him. he deserved it. dont commit a crime, and you wont receive a punishment.
they will never come up with a solution to closing the borders.
why ?
too many hispanic voters.....

The Feds should pull all funding and projects from any city with sanctuary policies. Frisco is running ads ENCOURAGING them to come there
As a taxpayer I find this outragious. We pay to provide enforcement and this city of misfits hides them out.
Either border is a concern as far as terrorists go but most of the drugs and criminals are comming in from the south. They need to finish the damn fence and set up a system where anyone that comes in contact with law enforcement is deported immediatly if they are found to be here illegally.

the recruitment of Border Agents is failing.... they are only like 25% to their target mark for new officers...

Yea, it should be either country, the one the criminal is a citizen of, or the country the crime was committed in, whichever penalty is harsher
. A gang-banger that committed a triple homocide and this guy's not going to fry? Wow...

Why do you continue to call "racism" and "xenophobia" when we ask ALL immigrants to simply follow the LAW?
This guy just happened to be "brown". I do not care the color of his skin, I care about his character. He shows his real charater, breaking our laws and killing three innocents.
They can come here looking for opportunity, just stop at immigration on the way in and do it legally.
