sand in sump

i was thinking i have a 75 gallon sump.half is full of live rock rubble and the other half is empty except for the scrubber overhead.i have like 100 lbs of sand (dry)would it do any good to put the sand in the space?i do keep a small powerhead in that space to keep water moving since i dont run my main pump too fast.
also there is alot of algae in that part of the sump due to the scrubber lights ,should i put a couple dozen snails in there or just leave it?

What is your nitrate situation?

just tested it ,bright yellow at zero nitrates.
seems the scrubber works pretty good
i just have some sand from my old 90 reef sitting around,thought i would wash it.but if it wont do anything for the tank i wont bother

In as much as you dont have a nitrate issue I am a big believer in adding every drop of water to a system as possible, with that in mind you are IMO better served not adding the sand and loosing water to displacement

ok thanks .just more stuff to clean anyway.think i should add some snails to that part?or let the algae grow.there is no algae in the rock rubble section at all.seems the lights are causing the algae.

As long as it is confined to your sump and not overtaking your rubble rock I would leave it
