Sand not settling

I set up a 75 gallon tank 3 days ago and the sand has still not settled. When I set up my 36 gallon, it was crystal clear the very next day. I know that there is a lot more water and a lot more sand to settle, but does 3 days seem right? I've posted a pic of how bad it is.

how many powerheads are in there? Are they pointing down into the sand?
how long it will take to settle also depends on how bad it is to start, and yours looks pretty unsettled so it will take longer. You just need to wait it out

I haven't put the powerheads in because I figured it would keep it from settling. The looks of the tank hasn't changed. I do have a large HOB filter running and cleaned it today, it looked like pure milk coming out of it when I rinsed it. So you think its ok, just need to wait? I have heard when I add my rock that it will help. My new wet/dry sump should be arriving tomorrow, do you think that will help clear it up too? Thanks Pete!!!

I just set my new 75 gallon up 3 weeks ago and it took a week to settle. I kept my powerheads off. I started to run my skimmer on the 5th day and that seemed to help a lot.

Thanks guys....My skimmer should be here tuesday as well so hopefully it will clean up. I'm taking my time with this one because everything is new and not from an established tank. My first one went really well because I was able to get really good rock from a LFS that had been cycled for over a year. Appreciate all of your advice.

i had this same problem 2 days ago and was told to stick a piece of uncured LR in there. All my rock was cured but i tried it anyways and it cleared up within 6 hours or so. i just had a PH, heater, and a piece of LR ~5 lbs. worked like a charm

I may be missing something buy how will an uncured piece of rock help the sand to settle.

by allowing bacteria to form in the tank weighing down the oolitic particles as well as acting as a minor flocculent (aka using the forming biofilm to stick the particles together)
six hours seems a little quick to me but over the course of a couple days definatly

mine cleared in a just over a day. are you running your filter? I ran my filter in the tank with a filter and just kept taking out the filter and rinsing it off to get the majority of the sand off of it.

Suggest a good canister filter with a bunch of spare cartridges.
Last time I added sand, I triple rinsed it, and ran my canister filter and the tank was clear in a 3-4 hours

I am running a double HOB filter and rinsing the cartridges each day. I get a ton of stuff out. I started my skimmer today. I hope to get my sump wet/dry any day now and get it hooked up. today the water seemed a little better. I should have my rock by Friday. I've started my cycle with a piece of shrimp yesterday. Looks like time is all I need to give it, lol.

I would just give it a little time. It is funny, and I know many, many different opinions on here, but sometimes seeing a question someone put on here, and the feedback is buy this or buy that and that will help. I am sure it is easy for some to just go out and buy this or that, but I think sometimes it is best to wait it out and see what happens, especially that you don't have any considerabley live organisms in it yet. Sometimes all you can do it wait it out. Now I am not looking for criticism for typing this, but I can say that if I did have all the money, I would buy everything I could to improve and make the best environment for all. But I don't, so sometimes my only option is to wait it out. And I really don't want a crap load of equipment on my system. I would be too busy taking care of it all, and not appreciating why I started this hobby in the first place. I am just saying that sometimes I think people get a little bit too accessory happy and the only solution is to buy a piece of equipment that either will or will not work for you. I am trying with mine to be as natural as I can get it out of the ocean. I do have equipment, but I just think sometimes it can be more of the cause and burden, rather than the solution. That is just my two cents, er well, take in inflation, bout a buck seventy-five, LOL.
