will a power head stir up a sand bed ?

It can if you have it aimed low in the tank, or aim it wrong. Sometimes it takes a little bit to get it just right. Just be patient and work with it. It took me three months to get mine to stop drifting the sand, but then I have two seio's 2600 and a seio 1500 in my tank.I found the best position is usally low in the tank blowing up and across.
