Sand quality after storage ...

First of all, HI GUYS and GALS...Long time no talk to !!!
My question stems from my absence. I had to tear the tanks down and stored everything. Well, the rock has seen beeter days but my immidiate concern is my sand. The sand has been in storage for about 3 months, no light, no flow but completed submerged in water. I figured most of the critters died in it, but by adding it to an up and coming tank, am i going to be introducing a ton of ammonia ?

hey mike, how are ya???
if the sand didnt stay at temp either, chances are that all the life is gone, and without cleaning, you probably have a ton of ammonia buildup in there......its not goign to hurt in a brand new tank, it just may take a little longer to cycle, but at the same time, there could be dormant eggs/larvae of the critters taht used to be in it that can spring back to life under normal conditions again!
