Sand quality after storage ...

First of all, HI GUYS and GALS...Long time no talk to !!!
My question stems from my absence. I had to tear the tanks down :( and stored everything. Well, the rock has seen beeter days but my immidiate concern is my sand. The sand has been in storage for about 3 months, no light, no flow but completed submerged in water. I figured most of the critters died in it, but by adding it to an up and coming tank, am i going to be introducing a ton of ammonia ?
Thoughts...

hey mike, how are ya???
if the sand didnt stay at temp either, chances are that all the life is gone, and without cleaning, you probably have a ton of ammonia buildup in there......its not goign to hurt in a brand new tank, it just may take a little longer to cycle, but at the same time, there could be dormant eggs/larvae of the critters taht used to be in it that can spring back to life under normal conditions again!
good luck
