Sand question

Hi.
I went to the local H Depot to look for the Old Castle aragonite sand and found the OC brand but the sands' color was brown with black and white specks throughout. I did not buy it because of this.
Is this the right sand(guessing it is not). It was called "Play Sand" and did not have any writing calling it aragonite or calcium based.

Definitly not the sand you want. You should go to a LFS and look for sand or some other substrate. There are different colors and types. I personally like the sugar size, white, sand. It kindof shimmers under actinic lights.

I used 40lbs of play sand from Ace Hardware, it is tan in color, but no Black or White specks...I put 30lbs of live sand on top of it. Worked out fine.

The sand I got from Home Depot was labeled "Play Sand", company was Old Castle, and it said "from the Caribbean" and "silica free"
Oh and it also has a disclaimer "not for aquarium use" - I would guess their attorneys make them say that.
I'm pretty sure the important thing you are looking for is the silica free component....
