It depends on the depth of your sandbed, if you are planning on having a shallow sand bed (2") then 90lbs will be enough. If you are planning on having a DSB then you are looking at 180-270lbs of sand.

If I were you, I would get 90lbs of aragonite sand. If you want a deep sandbed, your looking at about 270lbs Also depends on the footprint of the tank. There's a calculator on the R.C. site that can come inhandy.

I put 80 lbs in my 75 gallon an I think its a good amount. Not to shallow or deep. The sand I bought has all different sizes from bigger pebbles to sugar grain sand. Heres a pic and you can see the depth and different sizes.Attachment 217185

i am going to do a shallow sand bed in the dt. i am doing a sump/refuge. is it better to do a deep sandbed in the fuge or does it really matter? is there anything special to know as far as taking care of a deep sandbed in the fuge?

DSB in the fuge is no different than running one in the DT as far as care goes, as far as performance is concerned a DSB is better in the DT because you have much more surface area available for nitrate reduction than you will in your fuge the downside is the additional cost of sand to create the DSB in the DT.
