Sand Question

I went to the LFS today. She said the sand I bought from lowes, would not work in my fish tank. It's playsand for little kids so there is'nt any additive in it. She said the ph might mess up. I sterilized the sand by baking it in the oven for a couple hours. I checked my ph and it was fine. So do you think i should take all that 50lbs of sand out of my tank??? And buy her exspensive sand.

I used playsand in one of my tanks, while it is true that aragonite based sands to have extra buffering capablities I do not think it will make a huge difference. You will just need to monitor your Ph and add buffer as needed (basically the same thing you have to do if you have aragonite based sand).

right now it is at 8.0 but i don't have any live rock in yet.

PH in a marine tank should be 9.3 or 8.4 or so.

alrighty the thing on my kit says it should be 8.0-8.5
