sand storm

I filled my new FOWLR with southdown and saltwater. I am waiting on the live rock which is on order. The tank has been running with just the filter on for three days. I have not begun the cycle it yet, I am waiting on the rock to begin that process. I have read on this board that the sand storm does not really begin to clear up until some biological function starts. Any ideas when this sandstorm will abate? Should I be running a powerhead in there?

The sand will settle. Powerhead or no PH. If you're waiting on rock, just leave the light off...won't be able to see it as much!!!:p

I had the same problem with the southdown in my refugium. Once I added some LS on top, the cloud went away fast. Power heads and foam filters did nothing to help.

if you wanted to get a head start on the cycle before the lr got there you could throw in a couple pieces of krill or something of the sort

You're right. Once bacteria starts to form on the surface areas of the sand grains they will fall to the bottom of the tank much faster. Just another thing that takes "time" in this hobby.
Good Luck!
