How many lbs. of sand would I need to give me 2.5 inches in a 55 gallon tank. How long can live rock last out side of the water? Thanks again...

I would guess 1 to 1 1/2 lbs. per gallon . I was told live rock can go up to 4 hrs. out of water.

The live rock should be ok for a while out of the water, but the longer it sits the more die off you will have.

live rock can last for a long, long time out of the water, it needs to be kept out of direct sunlight though and stay relatively damp and cool
