SAND

Ive heard of Southdown Tropical Play sand being sold at Home Depot stores, I went into two different ones here in Northeast OK, and the people there think I'm crazy. (May be--but not for that!)
Does anyone know what kind of generic sand I can use thats not outragously expensive like those of the LFS??? Any input and criticism is appreciated. #Aaron Knight

I can't find it anywhere either. I've been searching for it online and I've come up empty. I've found something called "Fine Grade" Oolitic Aragonite Reef Sand that was $20.95 for 50lbs. I assume this is probably OK, but it's still more than the Southdown stuff. Has anyone had success with this Oolitic Aragonite Reef Sand? Or can anyone help us find the Southdown Tropical Play Sand? THANKS

If you want the finest oolitic sand, and I do mean fine--it's like powder, go with ESV's oolitic. I needed 150 lbs and bought it directly from esvco (dot you-know-what). It came to be $.75 a lb with the shipping. I LOVE this sand, and it is highly recommended by Shimek. (I seeded my sand with sand from my 7 year old 125 gal tank.)
It is awesome looking when you see it in your reef. And it is 100% FINE grade oolitic.
If the sand you are asking about above, for 20.95 is the ESV sand, and I think that may be what you are inquiring about, I give it two thumbs up and a high recommendation.

Thanks UNH. Yes, the site I found was ESV. I'm glad you liked the sand. I guess I'll have to figure out what kind of look I want before purchasing.
