RO/DI water.
I'm sure you were looking for inverts, but what type of water are you using?

What treatment? Unless your are filter your tap water it generally contains silica which will cause algae blooms, causing your sand to turn brownish - yellow. Adding treatments to the water is not going to prevent this from happening.

You mean like dechlorinator? Or something else? Again, not going to remove silica and prevent a diatom bloom
If you want clean sand, as previously stated, the best thing to add is RO water.
Even if you add a clean-up crew, if you keep adding tap water they are not going to be able to keep up with diatom blooms you are surely going to be experiencing.

I think the problem is in your tap water, even though you are "treating" it.
Snails and hermit crabs will stir your sand a little, but the "dirty" you are seeing will return within hours.

Yup.... tap water is your enemy. By all the snails, hermits and conch's you want. Your water is the problem. RO or RO/DI water!!
