thanks for the advice about the sand. i cannot find any of the southdown brands where i live. i bought silica sand, thomas712 said i should put argonite on top. what about live sand on top or should i use both. thanks.

Live sand would be great. If however you like the white white of aragonite then you can put some of it on top of your live sand or mix the two.
Dead sand + live sand = good combo
Dead sand + aragonite + seed with some live sand = good combo
Dead sand + aragonite + seed with liverock = good combo
Dead sand + live sand mix with aragonite = good combo
Also All live sand works
We could get into grain size and all that if you like. Just make sure that you do what is necessary to get the infauna population that you need for a heathy sand bed.
