Sandbed for cichlids

I have a 125g tank that has approx. 50-60 lbs of aragonite sand. Can this sand be used for a cichlid habitat? I would imagine it would be alright if it was rinsed and the ph would hold with this sand correct? Please let me know if this will work.

Do Cichlids require very very hard water?
Your aragonite sand is going to slowly dissolve in fresh water. In two or three years it should all be gone.

I just want to make sure that the sand won't harm them now. I know it will dissolve eventually. I just figured that the sand would be able to keep a good ph balance and keep some salinity in it being that cichlids like brackish water.
