Sandbed

ok im from Australia and im looking at wat type of sand i should use for a sandbed.
i know the best stuff to have is a Calcium Carbonate based aragonite sand, and needs to be silicon free.
heres the problem, all the LFS dont carry live sand and only supply CC (Aus must be a little behind in knowledge) so im think of going to a sand suppler and asking for a sand that would be right for my needs.
im thinking at least a 3" sandbed so if i ask for a Calcium Carbonate based aragonite sand, what else should i be carefull of, ie other impurites it may contain or grain size.
i guess what im asking 4 is a exact description of the sand that i need, for a LS bed.
cheers

IMO sand for a deep sand bed should be variable in grain size but still fine grained like sugar. The individual grains should be round devoid of sharp edges. It should be pure. Color is a fairly good indicator of purity. I believe that White is the only acceptable color.
It can be silica or Aragonite based.

i though that slicates encourage algale growth, or are you talking about a quartz based sand, as the silcates are very stable??
