A 2" sand bed won't be deep enough to provide the benefits of a sand bed(other than appearence) and will need to be cleaned the same as crushed coral would. But...that may just be my opinion.

OMG I hope you are wrong NM.....and there's seldom a chance of that. :nope:
I am planning on putting a deeper sand bed into my Fuge once it is built...like 4" or 5". Will that compensate for the 2" in my 55? I hope so I just got mine set up last week! :sleepy:

A 2" sand bed isn't deep enough to provide de-nitrification benefits...detrius and waste will accumulate ... to remove it you'd need to vaccume about the same as you would a crushed coral bed. Most info I've seen indicates a DSB needs to be at least 4" to function properly...maybe less depth if the sand is all oolitic(suger grain sized)....and I may be totally wrong...but if so it ain't the first time.

my sand bed ranges from 2- 4 inches. 1 pound of sand per gallon of tank volume should give you 3 inches which is fine. hope this helps. nothing beats water changes to keep your nitrates down.

It's not that 20# isn't enough. Your 10g isn't big enough to support diversity required to maintain a live sand bed. I'd leave maybe an inch or less and vacum as needed.
