Hello,
This is my first post here, but have been lurking for a long time.
I was wondering if anybody out there uses a Sapphire Skimmer in a Bio-Cube 14 gallon. If so, how is the back portion of your cube configured?
I am amazed at how many mods people on this site have done to their cubes an am looking for the proper way to modify the filtration. The only mod that I have done is to update the pump to a Maxi-Jet 900. The tank has been up for a few months with no problems at all, so I don't want any now.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Hello,

I have a Sapphire skimmer in a biocube 14 and it has done a good job so far. Here are some pics of the back portion. My Biocube has been running for 7 months.

The skimmer is slightly to big. You need to cut the small 1/4" portion seen here.

I cut the slot out to increase flow to the left of the heater

Jumpman23...Thanks for the Pictures and info.
Can you tell me what each of the three chambers of your filter contain? It looks like you have done exactly what I would like to do.
Thanks

All of my mods except for the skimmer came from DeMartini's thread. There is alot of good info there for Biocube owners.
1st chamber with the heater:
1. Marineland Visi-Therm stealth heater
2. Removed the filter cartridge
3. Has live rock rubble for bio filtration (I have read that you shouldn't put a glass heater in this chamber w/ live rock rubble, mine is not glass)
2nd or middle chamber:
1. Sapphire Skimmer NC 12
2. Live rock rubble in place of the bioballs(you have to clean the bioballs or they can cause a nitrate problem, you dont have to clean live rock)

3. On top of the live rock rubble there is filter floss that I got at petsmart or ***** for $5 called "Marineland Rite-size Bonded filter pads". It comes in one big pack that you can cut to fit that will last for months.
3rd chamber:
This chamber is unchanged. I would like to add a maxi-jet 900 as you have.
Some poeple put a bag of carbon inplace of the spounge in this chamber.
