I just got 20 scarlet hermits and they went to work about 2 days after I got them as well as all my other clean up crew critters, Just wondering if I have to feed them anything special or if they will be ok just eating the left over food, not much of that, and algea? Um, I think that that is it. Pondy

As long as you have fish, live rock, and sand in your tank, you don't need to feed your hermit crabs. Actually, its quite pointless to feed them as then all they are doing is adding to your tank's bioload.

I realized after several weeks of watching my clean up crew that they are not designed/intended to stay in your tank indefinitely at the number recommended. You will probably keep a certain number of each animal but after the initial "cleaning" they kinda work themselves out of a job.

I have already seen that go about in my aquarium and I willnot go about feeding them,, I do have about 55 pounds of live rock in my 29 gallon and sand so they should be good, right. Heres a question again, I have what looks like diatoms, brown looking not good stuff, and I was wondering if these scarlet hermits would eat that? Thanks for your help.

Diatoms are normal for a new tank and will eventually go away on their own. Just make sure you never use unfiltered tap water in your tank or they will come back. You need to use reverse osmosis (RO) water or distilled water.
Make sure that you keep your cleaning crew stocked. Hermit crabs and snails die all of the time. You need to keep about 1 hermit crab and lesser snail per 2 gallons of water. You can use mexican turbo snails instead of the lesser snails (astraea, nasa.). I recommend 1 mexican turbo snail per 15-20 gallons.
