Was at a meeting tonight about 6 p.m.........got a phone call from my daughter from the police dept......she was crying (nothing new ..long story) BUT she tells me she dozed off....and when she opened her eyes her 3 kids (my grandkids) WERE GONE......I was like what? Luckily my meeting was only a few miles away.....I flew "literally" over there to her house.....the cops were at her house.....NO KIDS......she was hysterical.......neighbors were looking for them too.....I drove down the road to my job.....checked some playgrounds....NOTHING....
drove down a few more roads...thoughts like you would not believe were going thru my head.......about 50 minutes later they were found
apparently they decided to walk to a friends.....MIND YOU they are 8, 7 and 5......WELL the cop gave them a REALLY strong lecture......followed by a REALLY stern lecture and hugs from me.....as their mother cried and cried.......
Just a reminder....hold close what is dear to you....I thank GOD all ended up well tonight........we all know from many stories it could have been a lot different

Glad everything turned out and the kids were fine.

not sure if I would be more mad at your daughter or the grandkids, but both would be getting a come to Jesus meeting.

I did not sleep very well last night thinking of all the "what ifs" BELIEVE ME......my daughter got an earful from me too.....for whatever good it did :(
When you have 3 children...who are not well-behaved...they need to be watched CONSTANTLY.....there is no room for dozing off
I hate to say it but her kids are very sneaky.....they do not listen to her, and IMO they all need family therapy :( BUT...they are her kids, and I can only do so much...so much of what I say falls on deaf ears...all I can do is be there when they need me I guess

I am right in the same boat with you...we have no control. When my kids were small I didn't dare sleep until I was certain they were. My daughter tells me horror stories of the crap little 3 year old Andrew the terrerist got into. I ask where was she when he pulled the jelly out of the fridge and smeared it on every wall of the house...her answer "napping".
Andrew is the little one that burned down the house, only the dog died in that fire....and she still takes naps. Mind you she wasn't napping when he burned the house down, the whole family was in bed that night, but a kid that does that kind of stuff you don't turn your back on.
I'm sooo glad the kids were okay, we can't do anything more but just be there for them. The kids are not to blame...the parents are the ones responsible. Little kids need to be watched and protected from hurting themselves, and teens need to be watched from hurting the neighbors. From the moment they are born, until they are adults...parenting is a full time job.

How times have changed. When I was 5, it wasn't uncommon to find me down the street at a friends house until it got dark. At 7 and 8, I not only stayed out past dark, but I spent most of my summers and days after school at the neighborhood city recreational park that was GASP 8 blocks down the road! We didn't have cell phones to call with or text to "check in", and our parents rarely if ever worried about us. By 11 and 12, we were riding our bikes 5 or more miles to hang out at the mall or go watch a movie. Now kids can't even walk down the street on a whim without the cops getting called...

Same here when I was young in SoFl. I used to ride my bike at least 2-5 miles a day going to mall and visiting friends and playing basketball and etc. Sad world we live in now...

I read this when the thread was first posted. I just wanted to chime in and say that I am glad everything was alright. I would have been scared outta my mind too. I hope my daughter never does that to my wife and I.
I'm a grown man and I still ride my bike everywhere. Now days, it's extremely dangerous to ride a bike anywhere because of all the bad drivers that are on their cell phones and texting and not paying attention. IE, my bike accident a few weeks ago. Would I want my daughter riding a bike in my neighborhood? HECK NO!

Oddly...I would not have worried so much with all of them gone at once, I would have figured they were at a friends house and thinking..."when I catch up and find you
little darlings...your toast!" Then think of the lecture they would be getting. I would have indeed called the police just in case, because every moment counts if there is trouble. Now if one or two went missing leaving one behind, I would'nt be able to drive I would be so shaken up.
I had three children very close together. Siblings that age stick together and get into trouble together, seldom does something happen to all three, one will always run home to tell if they were hurt or getting into serious trouble. In my mind a bad guy can grab a couple of kids but not three, one would get away to tell. Now I know that may not be true and bad people work together, but that's what would be on my thoughts. Saying I wouldn't worry so much does not mean I wouldn't worry at all, just not the panic like I would with one or two missing.
