chromis and anthias
My 1st choice too; but don't expect a nice, tight school. They (and all fish I know of) tend to disperse a lot after they acclimate. Chromis are very easy fish; anthias aren't generally a beginners fish. (yeah, I looked at your profile.)

I have 4 green chromis, and they are almost always together

Check out glass cardinals.
Once chromis form a group, the dominant fish will usually pick off the weaker until only one or two are left.

All depends on the size of your tank:
Green Chromis - 3"
Blue Reef Chromis - 5"
Bannerfish - 9.8"
Porkfish - 15"
Lookdowns - 16"
Tuna - lol, nevermind..getting silly now.
My personal Fav would be the Blue Reef's as you don't see them that often and they get a little size to them. But I'd be putting them in a several hundred gallon tank with semi-Agg fish.
All depends on how big and tankmates.

I had 4 green chromis and they all ended up eating each other in the end. Wish I had anthias, but then again I don't have a large tank.

I would agree on the green crmoies do school,as for being mean, I had 10 and they slowly went to 3, I have added more to off set the loss.
I have heard that blue eye cardnals school, but have yet to get any of those fish. LFS said they are out of season.
