Yes a one gallon tank must be a joke, i buy milk cartons bigger. anyways i believe that perc can be kept in numbers, personally i have three that have been together a long time, none with any signs of damage. Percs are the only clowns i've ever seen in numbers, other clowns such as tomato are always mixed with other fish. as far as the mandarin it feeds off of live rock and shouldn't be kept unless there is sufficient live rock to meet its needs. remember these aren't toys they are living things requiring continued maintanence and care

michael21... My one gallon has been going strong for a few months now. I however do not have any fish in it. Just a thought, you can do it if you know what you are doing and have the commitment to doing it.

Yes that's what I meant. She told me that setting up a ten gallon salt water tank for my first attempt would be a disaster, I did say that I was fairly new to this afterall. And yes I realize people are capable of doing salt water in 10 gallon aquariums or smaller. But the people who do these are quite experienced. A 10 gallon salt water aquarium for a beginner does not = a bright future.
Very cute 1 gallon aquarium btw. Next thing you know people will be doing aquariums measured in ounces

i have a 15 gallon and a 55 gallon reef tank, i wish i didnt have the 15 anymore now. I would try to get a bigger tank because the smaller the tank, the more work you have to do. Like everyone else says, its hard but its just more effort. You have to watch everything more carefully. But that doesnt mean you shouldnt get a nano. As long as you limit yourself on everything, it should be fine.
Things i did wrong, get too many fish(wrong type), did not research before i buy and over-dose and trying to take shortcuts. I would personally ask the board something before buying something like coral, lighting, fish and see what they think. It only seems like a good deal until it dies.
good luck

great pics people, I always thought bigger was better in this hobby but I guess I was wrong from what you've shown you can go either way as long as you know what you are doing. Well this has convinced me to turn my 10 gallon aquarium into my hospital tank thanks guys saved me from buying a 29 gallon.

clowns are very hardy fish i have a pair of true mated percs
i would not put them in a 10 gallon tank though imo, i think they will get to stressed and die

PS - Princess Silly, what ever you do, DO NOT get a Mandarin. I am brand new too and do not generally give advise, but even I can tell you without a doubt that it will die. We all make mistakes learning this hobby and the fish pay the price, but knowing this from the outset and buying one anyway would be nothing short of criminal.

She doesn't even have a sw tank, she doesn't know what a mandarin is, AND NEVER, EVER, INSULT MY FRIEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You do not need to call people names to get their attention, you could be more kind and mature in choosing your words, then maybe you could be worth more than the 5 cents your mother put you for sale for!!!!!!!!!

Just curious but where Tigerlover does she say she has a fw tank? I would think the only reason she would post on Saltwaterfish.com is because she has saltwater.

I'm with Jackief1,
Tiger, you do argue with the folks on this board alot. It really isn't a "BIG" deal. If your friend has a FW tank, why is she posting on a SW board asking if she can keep two clownfish and a mandarian? It's this kind of stuff that upsets me. I read a on one of your post that you said youd never be back. Well maybe you meant you'd come back as a meaner and more arguing person.
Can't we all just get along?
BTW Tiger,
I'm 14 and yes I've faced arguing and "fighting" but trust me all of this will help you to become a more mature person when you get older(like I'm much more older : ) )...

Look, If princesslily doesn't know the difference between salt water and fresh -and she doesn't know the difference between clownfish and goldfish - I'm thinking theres probably not much chance she"ll be getting all "A's" on her report card either! Which makes this whole thread rather moot.;)

guys, listen to me. Princesslily is my friend, I gave her the tank, I know it is fw. She is very bright and DOES make all A's on her report card, she just has never had fish before.
BTW, I am not trying to argue, I just do not appreciate anyone making fun of my friend.
CAN A MODERATOR PLEASE CLOSE THIS BEFORE IT TURNS UGLY????
THERE IS NO POINT TO THIS THREAD ANYMORE, IT IS KILLED, PLEASE CLOSE OR DELETE IT!!!!!!

Tigerlover, if she has never had fish before, why does she have another thread about killing her last clownfish?
Whoever this person is, it seems clear to me she knew what she was stirring up. My advice to her is not to try it again. It has been seen before, and it will not be tolerated this time either.
If this person is a genuine hobbyist, and wishes to learn, it would seem she has a good starting point with you. Please encourage her to read, and be patient, as everyone here has tried to do. She is most welcome here.
And apparently she is a quick learner, because she was able to suggest someone had 'pods' or knew to ask about possible 'spirals' on the glass in another thread....the same general day this was posted. For someone who knew nothing about fish and SW/FW tanks, that is a good shot in the dark.
Just makes one wonder who forgot who they were logged on as, a common thing here. :( More work.
The reason this was identified as a 'troll' thread was that the comments given were very common 'hot' points that it would be more than a bit coincidental for someone completely new to this hobby to hit.
After awhile, it becomes easier to identify true 'newbie' situations, and grave mistakes, versus a troll. This, IMO, was someone playing a joke and wasting time.
This thread is closed. Indeed let's all stop the name calling, threatening, and overall childishness across the board, shall we?? Honestly. People only get a bit of time to come to this board and this is the sort of stuff that they have to sort through.
