I'm setting up a new tank and rather than having a single spectacular key fish (like a giant Emperor), I've been investigating the idea of a school of somethings (6-15 fish) but I keep getting conflicting advice. One person says use these, another says that they'd only live in peace until body size 4"+, and so on. The 3 front-running species are:
1. Blue Hippos (or any of a number of Tangs I like).
2. Clarkiis (1 Dominant female, one active male, and several drones)
3. Heniochus Butterflys
Any alternative suggestions or reasons why any of the above would be a major mistake for a 450?

Do tangs school?I always though they prefer to be solitary once they reach adulthood.Maybe I'm just thinking of some of the species.
Why not try true shoaling fish like athias.A harem of 1 male and 8+ females. Some will even morph into sub-males.Bartletts,Carryberryi or Dispars come to mine. Those are all peaceful, heck you can do all three species or more.

Unless your tank is huge, no. Try the green chromis, they're easy to care for but will form a heiarchy since they are a damsel. Anthias are nice, but are a little harder to care for.
