I have live rock and sand, i need something, pods right? but does anyone know who actually sells it, like the company and the actual name on the bottle? i tried finding it......

I can tell you right now that with 15 Lbs of LR that Scootter Blenny is NOT going to live. They need a large abundance of pods to eat that are found in the LR. You can order a detritivore kit online from www.ipsf.com and www.inlnadaquatics.com
I can tell you I put a Scooter in my 55 with 75 Lbs of LR that was running for about 6 months. He wiped out the population in about a month, then slowly starved to death a month after. I learned the hard way.

Bought a scooter (dragonette actually) blenny, not realizing that they are major pod eaters. As mentioned you can get a kit from IPSF, they also sell a pod kit which you could set up in say a 10 gallon tank and put some live rock in the 10 gallon and transfer some of the live rock to and from the main tank each week. Sort of a pod hatchery if you will. (I am doing a similar thing, but with my sump.)
The other thing to try is sweetwater zooplankton, my Scooter seems to eat that as well.

I thought scooter blennies eat brine shrimp? I bought 2 for my 90g tank will they live? I can see pods on my glass. I have 90 lbs of lr.

scooters often will do fine, and often do eat brine as well
you have to get the food down to them in most cases, but they can generally be turned to foods easier than mandarins

Try spot feeding it with a turkey baster or such, and watch to see if it takes brine. I spot feed and mine eats anything, I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Do you know the --- of your 2 scooters? 1 male and 1 female, or 2 females will get along fine. But if you got 2 males, soon you will have 1.

Males will have a very elongated first dorsal spine that has a green fan-like webbing with large spots on it, very colorful. Females do not have the enlarged first dorsal spine. HTH

I have two scooter blennies in a 50 gal tank. I do have about 100lbs of LR but my scooters (rocky and rj - or rocky, jr.) eat flake (prime reef), frozen brine, fozen myisis -- in fact just about anything I put in there. My pod population is and has always been thriving. They are fun to watch together and they change colors (around the fins where they breathe).
You can ask the LFS to feed them before you buy them. See if they take food.
They do love to swim on around and behind rock. They go the length of the 50 gal (4') just playing around. I'm not sure how one would do in a smaller tank.
Enjoy

hmmm mine are fine. guess I have a male and a female? b/c they get along. Chase each other around, but don't hurt each other.
Is the first dorsal spine the same as the fan? Gotta pic of male v. female or link?
oh, there is a fin just ahead of the fan. hard to tell b/c r.j. is younger than rocky and therefore smaller. Does appear to be smaller than rocky's though. sigh. I don't know.

uh.... what if the blenny runs away from you once it sees the thing? like i put the frozen brine shrimp in the water and later its gone... i dont know if its the shrimps that are eating it or the blenny, is there a way to tell if its really hungry? can it anything else i can put into the tank besides pods because i cant afford making a new tank..... do i need frozen, baby brine or live brine... if i could feed it brine... i was wondering about getting a kit to make my own brine shrimp. if i trap the blenny in a net while its in a tank and put the brine in that will that work? any ideas?

you do not have to get right next to it to feed it with a baster, just aim the food at them and squirt gently
as for sexing them, to make it easier, the female will have 2 equally sized dorsals, where as the males front one will stand taller than the rear of the 2. I find that easier then to describe their fans. and any combo will get along, so long as it is not 2 or males.

Hey Fshhub! Sorry but I did not understand...
"any combo will get along, solong as it is not 2 or males"
So long as it's not two males?
I must not have two males b/c no one is injured or hiding, etc.
And sorry to be soooooo dumb... but both have fans, right? what you are saying is the first dorsal fin of the male stands taller than the second. right? Rocky has a huge fan... so I'm certain he's a male. R.J. is still smaller than Rocky, but her fan seems much smaller. I'll check it out again with your new info.
Hey how are you? All good here. My tank is WONDERFUL. Still need a few things, but happy as can be.

tanks, sandy
You are right, it should read 2 males, not 2 or males.
In other words, 2 or more females, or one of each, or several females and one male.
Glad to hear about your tank, it is always nice to hear good reports instead of the every day things. Don't get me wrong, I do not mind the veery day mumbo jumbo, but progress reports are nice too.
I am fine too, adn tanks for asking.:D

I just got a scooter today and have been watching him eat all day,
mostly algea, after reading this post I got worried about him starving
later on in his life! I feed my Clown frozen brine and to my
delite when 1 landed next to the blenny it ate it.
I have all kinds of growth in my tank even after just 6 weeks
but should have checked here b4 getting a scooter. I hope he
will be fine though since he does eat the brine shrimp.

My scooter was one of my first, maybe even 6 or so weeks after the cycle and is still with me, I really dont see a huge pod pop, but is still eating brine and others. Just try to soak your food in garlic also (1X a week or so), to help out some, and spot feed with the cheap ol turkey baster.(make sure it is eating) Also be very careful with your clown and the scooter,(and anything else you add) they need more than just brine, try to mix up the diet, brine is not very nutritional. ;)

I have also been feeding the Clown with Marine Flake food,
which he also seems to enjoy. So do I need to also find something
ealse for the Blenny?
