Scopas Tang

My LFS has had a scopas tang in their tank for many weeks now and it seems very healthy in its little tank. My tank is a 55 and i really like this fish and if it hasnt shown any diseases as of now wouldnt it be safe to assume that it doesnt have any. I have been really careful with this hobby so far and have not taken any chances. I was just wondering if getting this fish is a chance worth taking? I am not dying to have it but i would really like to.

scopas tangs although smaller that some tangs still get to 5+ inches so a 55 would be pushing it with this tang as they will get large, so iw ouldnt reccomend it... but they are a nice fish,, they are also known to be bold

I have a Scopas that is about 4". He is very bold. I also have a Yellow Tang, a Hippo Tang, a Foxface, Lunare Wrasse,Hawkfish, Koran Angel and a couple of Pajams Cardinals. I have had no luck keeping Butterflies, Anthias or Chromis becuase I think the Tangs are too aggressive. They are eating machines and timid fish never seem to get anything to eat. I have a 225 gallon. So even though they are pretty and hardy, I would suggest you skip it.

max out at 7.9 inches, i'd say a 90+ would suit it, but not a 55, and my lfs got a white and black scopas, and it is the coolest thing ever!, if my tank wasn't only 30 gallons.. he would be mine as of now.

that could be your problem right there.. scopas and yellows dont mix

nor a 90 or 125 will suit an 8 inch tang.. if you ever saw an 8 inch tang you would definantly agree..

I am surprised that you say that. Those two fish really like each other. They hang together all of the time. It is not that they are mean, they just like to eat!

i could be wrong but what i think he means is your suposed to have one or three of the same shaped tangs, or they fight

i've seen countless 8inch + tangs.. it could tolerate a 90, and a 125 would be perfectly fine..
