Lower in Kelvin? Why lower? Just wondering.
the lower the kelvin, the higher the color rendering index (which helps promote growth). heres a description of a 6000k bulb:
This 54 watt 48" Giesemann PowerChrome Midday 6000K German-made T5 high output fluorescent broad spectrum, high CRI bulb encourages coral growth. This T5 fluorescent aquarium lamp is ideally suited to full spectrum use for growth of SPS and also works is great when used in a 1:1 ratio with either the Pure Actinic, or Actinic Plus supplementary lamps.
(from a bulb vendor's website)
problem is, it is so yellow it makes it look like you need carbon

Aren't the lower kelvin bulbs also great for growing algae? Less color in the coral also, but like Ren said faster growth. A lot of the big propagators use lower kelvin for growth then a few weeks prior to sale break out the higher kelvin to color them up.

Some updated photos
First the updated Nightmare paly pic (no longer on this plug, but had to photo it before regluing;

Then some additional ones of the assorted zoas and palys

Some of the Acans - they've recovered nicely from shipping and appear to be gaining more color (anybody know anything about these - help me out - I know very little).

Nope, not corals, but they are an easy to grow nem - perhaps you need some new genetic material in your colony - I could bag a few up and send them your way.

Joe, Overnight shipping to 34119 is $150 and there is a packaging cost of $100, and a fuel surcharge of $50. But you being a friend and all, I'll tell you what I'll do, I won't charge you anything for this great, nutrient consuming nem - I even toss in a few extras for free. Let me know if you're interested

How did you make the light stand with the egg crate?
Espexcially how did you connect it to the tank, and what glue or w/e did you use?
I'm thinking of doing this myuself.

Hey dustyboy, I cut the pieces out of eggcrate using a pair of pliers to the desired height and length. Once I was finished, I superglued the three pieces of eggcrate together. The stand is shaped as a U, and is thus self-supporting, it simply sits on top of the eggcrate cover on the tank. On the frag rack (because I was having to flex it to get it into the tank) I also zip-tied some of the pieces, short white zipties are available at your local hardware store. Be aware however that recently, individuals are beginning to have problems with white eggcrate causing a significant increase in issues with slime algae, and a vinigar or bleach dip is being advised before placing white egg crate into a tank (black egg crate does not seem to be suffering the same problems). It is proposed that the eggcrate contains phosphates which are then leaching into the system.

Ahh I didn't think of making a U shape. I'm going to have to tr this out. I won't have it in my tank, I just need it to support my actnic fixture. It isn't "water safe" so I would like to put it a bit above the water so not much evapopration hits it...
