I left my tank to my father for a week while I was in the Bahamas and he took great care of it. I made sure I installed an auto-top off system before I left, so all he had to do was feed them every other day. He did great with that though! :)
Good luck with your tank, and have a great time in Vegas! It is awesome out there!!

THe only things you really need to be concerned with...a fish dies and it is not removed, power outage, overfeeding.
You can take care of all these issues by prepackaging the daily food, back up power for power heads (should not need heater this time of year unless it is still cool) and insrtuctions to remove any dead "bodies".
If your system is stable and you can take care of top offs there is nothing to worry about. Set your thermostat in your home or apt at 82. Just in case you have a rise in temp.
Roll the dice in Vegas and do not worry. I've gone on vacation so many times and really never have had a problem with any of my systems.
I am not certain why a 50% water change would be required but whatever makes you comfortable. I am leaving in about an hour for a week in the Rockies and I did my usual weekly maintenace last night which includes a 5-7% water change on each system

What about cleaning the protean skimmer? Lets say you cant trust any one to clean it. Should you just not run it for a week or just let it run?
