Yesterday I bought a sea apple....and guy at the store (Troical Sowcase...DO NOT GO TO THAT STORE ANYMORE)didn;t tell me anything about it..he just told me that its really easy to keep. So I went out and when I cam home all my fish were in fish heaven :( ,but my fire shrimp and all the snails and nudibranches are alive .I didn;t know what caued that so I ck my water first and everything was normal, so I went on the internet and find out that when sea apple is died or when it stressed it releases poison that kills all your fish. I ck on sea apple today ..it died.
:(
I have few questions for you...
1. How much water should I change ?
2. Would it kill anemonies, nudibranches, snails and srimp?
3. When I can put back fishies?
4. Is sea apple poison harmful to humans.

I would run carbon or a few days and maybe do a water change. I had one about a year ago. Mine was very good tempered I guess I accadently drops rocks onhim a few times and he never released poison like most people claim they do. Mine got into a fight with my rotating powerhead and lost. Bythe time I actually found him it had already started to fade in color so it had been dead most of the day I would imagine! I just ran carbon and nothing ever came of it. Hope this helps you.

Oh man, that sucks.
I would do 50% water change. Another one in a week. Run carbon like the post above said. 2 water changes will be 75% of new water and the cabon should pick up the rest.
The poison does not effect inverts. I would wait 2 weeks before adding fish.

I dont!
Eitherway- do a waterchange- run some extra carbon- or replace and take out the apple if you havent already

Carbon...change out every day for a few days. Do several small water changes...I wouldn't change lots of water at once or you may lose your shrimps and stuff too.

I do not think that it’s my fault! People in the store should be knowledgeable about the stuff that they sell. And they can’t lie about stuff that they selling in order to sell it! I specifically asked sales person in that store for an advice on sea apple before I bought it. He is the one who lied to me and therefore he should take full responsibility and I’m definitely reporting him to the Better Business Bureau!

nobody can be expected to be an expert, and some of the people who posted that newbies should be responsible have made some of the same mistakes when they were newbies. Us newbies wouldn't be here if we didn't wanna learn how to be responsible, But on every question there are 50 different answers. People on this board say one thing, LFS has another answer, books say something else. Unfortunately there are no clear cut rules and a person shouldn't know everything, and when u go inti a fish store
they should know more than what a fish cost they should know how to take care of it and what effects it has on your tank. When u buy a Sea Apple and a clownfish maybe the LFS should tell u that if the Sea apple gets stressed it oozes poisons so i can make an informed decision, not lie and say it's easy and non harmless. And it's pretty stupid to lose a customer for $30.

I asked what I should do to clean up after the sea apple and I got 100's of different answers from people on this board other internet sites my local fish store, and there were 30 different answers, so which would be the ideal out of those answers.
it was our fault buying the sea apple, but more blame has to be on the fish store that tells a person that something was ok to do when it wasn't. Why should The local fish store be held to a lower standard. If u go onto this websiet or livaquaria, or any other website that sells fish, and the fish is poisonious the website tells u that.

To sum it all up-
1. Waterchange and replace carbon frequently for a while
2. The LFS is not 100% to blame
3. People lie, and if they dont know they often make it up so they dont look bad- Its a fact of life
4. Dont rely on someone who you know nothing about to give you good advice.
And
5. If you cant go to the LFS and look at something and ID it and say that you know you have what it needs to remain healthy in your tank, dont buy it- you dont have to be an expert to make good choices
Good Luck :)
