clearance is about 5 inches.
It was the first skimmer I ever had and also the first skimmer to be thrown away.

Still working...High Maintainence to keep adjusted/producing...Good for a "small" tank 20-30gal probably too weak for much bigger...You get what you pay for (Not Much):) ...Would I recomend one?...Not really, unless you like to tinker/a chalange.

Need minimum of 5 inches of clearance, and you'll have to keep an eye on the salt creep too. VERY LOUD so thats irritating. Was my first skimmer, it does it's job for under 100 dollars, but it needs constant adjustment. I also added a piece of filter pad in the spill tray so there wasn't excess bubbles going back in the tank. Good luck, but my advice is save up for a much better one.

I have had a seaclone skimmer on a smaller tank (30 gallons) for 10 months now. I admit it is
noisy, but it does a good job. I have not experienced the "high maintainence" mentioned by the others. My skimmer did not need constant adjustment, and I had no trouble with bubbles, after my skimmer was properly
adjusted during the initial setup/break-in period. Getting it properly adjusted in the first place is somewhat time-consumming, but once you have done it, there should be minimal "tinkering". I haven't had to adjust anything on my skimmer for months, nor do I need to use a filter pad.

Looks like the consensus is that they aren't good. However, I have one and it works fine for me. It isn't noisy and hasn't required adjusting. Maybe the old SeaClones were bad and now they are better.

I agree with the positive votes. I have had one for 6 months and think it works great! Although it's the only one I've ever had so maybe I don't know what I'm missing.
It keeps the collection cup full of the ugly, smelly grenish-brown gunk, so I know it's working!
It does tend to bubble up after you feed or after adding new water/suppliments, etc, but the bubbles stop after about 30 minutes or so.
I like mine...

I bought one for my 46 gal because of the price and was not going to do much with this tank.
I enjoy the challange of making it work and if you keep up with it it does work. I keep getting salt residue in the air tube right by the powerhead. I have no idea how it gets in there but I clean it 1 a week and it is OK, sort of !

are you putting the filter pad where the water runs back into the tank. I to sometimes have this bubble problem.
But with some adjusting and waiting it usually goes away.

I'm gonna have to put a vote in for a positive. I've had mine for a while and I think it has served me well for the money (they are cheap comparatively). I do not have a huge bioload however, so I don't think I am really taxing the skimmer.
For a smaller tank I think it would do just fine. It IS nosiy however.
It says it is rated for a 100 gallons, but I don't think so. I wouldn't put it on anything larger than a 55 with a low bioload.
HTH.

I also have a positive vote on it. Noisy yes....however past 6 months I have had mine running, never had to tinker with it and that cup is always getting filled with that lovely green crap.

for the price, its not that bad of a skimmer at all. Had mine for bout 5 months now. It is noisy, but if you sump it, the noise is not that bad. Ive had to tinker w/ mine a couple of times. mainly just cleaning and adjusting the air intake.
I also think its good for nothing larger than about a 35-45 gallon tank.

yes and no - works fine but leaks at times where input tube hits main tube. Almost had a mini disaster once if I didn't catch it in time. Could have designed this part of it better. But...... for the money - I would. I have mine on a 55.

What kind of adjustment for air intake do you have? I mean in the main chamber, can you still see the tornado effect? or is that area totally full of bubbles in yours? Also, what happens in the break-in period because I just got mine and I'm not seeing anything, no foam, no nothin..
Should I have that filter pad around the powerhead intake or does that really block alot and make the simmer uselsess?
