sea clone cause of dead fish

I just installed a sea clone 150 last night. It seemed to be running fine but by morning the tank had filled up with tiny bubbles. All of the fish this morning were breathing really hard. Later in the day I noticed that one of my fish had died. I tested the water and everything was perfect. Were all of these bubbles the cause of death? I shut off the skimmer and the bubbles went away but my fish are still breathing a little hard. I talked to my LFS and they said that this was a problem with the sea clones...it produces toxic nitrogen. Anybody know anything about that? Does anybody know how to get rid of the bubbles with the sea clones? I took the unit apart and took it back to the store...of course it worked just fine there and now it is working fine on my tank...just a few bubbles.

personally i don't see how the skimmer would cause toxic nitrogen....it is acually a good thing for the skimmers to use air (tiny bubbles)b/c it buts oxygen back into the tank....but of course you don't want them in your diplay!! One thing you should consider if you have a sump is to run the seaclone in the sump this will case less bubbles in the display and you can increase the air flow rate and get better skimming.....that is what your prob was most likely is that you had the air valve open too much and that caused the bubbles to flow into the display....though skimmers do have breakin periods that the have to got though and during that time you will most likely see some bubbles but these will go away with time!!.....good luck....my seaclone works great!!.....

Now my scooter blenny is dead!!!! I dont know what is wrong. Everything measures good. The temp is a lttle high because it has been so hot here. I dont know what it causing things to die.

Do you have all your parameters if you do could you post them......pH,ammonia, trates, trites....if you do post them.....what is your salinity.......how hot is your tank??....something is obviously not right!!Good luck

pH-8.0
Ammonia-0
Nitrites-0
Nitrates-5
Sal.-1.025
Temp is 86....I pulled the canopy off and one set of lights. It was over 90 here yesterday...what a fluke.

Okay...now I have every fan in my apartment on the tank...I turned the A/C on...and I am floating bags of ice in the tank.

The higher the temp of your water, the less disolved oxygen there will be. If your temp raised quickley, this could be the cause of your fish breathing heavy. I don't think the skimmer has had anything to do with it. Make sure the suction side of the powerhead is at the recomended depth below the surface. Then just go through the break in period adjusting the air valve.

well, you should've read the trouble shooting guide that came with your seaclone. if you read it, it has one for small bubbles being produced. i believe the problem was the skimmer can take a week+ to "break" in. mine did that for about 2 days before it started pulling out stuff.
the bubbles are harmless, they just look bad in a tank. sounds like your temp being at 90 degrees was your problem.

i have a seaclone it seems to work fine but it does produce bubbles hope i dont end up having the same effect

Oneflysi,
I wrote that the temp in my apartment was 90 degrees the actual tank temp was 86. I did read the user guide for my skimmer. The problem shooting guide for the tells you that if you use a strees coat product, bubbles will form. It doesnt really cover other problems...for bubbles. My LFS said this was not notmal for the product to produce so many bubbles.

I keep my Seaclone output tube flowing over a wet/dry filter pad. Mine started skimming the day I got it with no bubbles. I use the pad to dissipate any bubbles before they can flow into the tank just incase it feels like spitting some out.
Also, is it possible for the fish to have swallowed a bubble?

Well, I have got to tell you that the same thing happened to me after I installed my SeaClone--lots of little bubbles, and two fish (damsels) lying on the bottom breathing hard. I thought they were goners for sure, but the next day they were swimming around, breathing a little hard, but they did gradually recover. I never really did find out what happened, but it did seem to me to be connected with the Seaclone in some way. Whenever I do a partial water change, I get little bubbles for a while, but I have never again had the problem with the fish. Go figure.

I don't think your pH is helping matters although it's probably not to blame directly for the death of your fish. I think
at least 8.2 to 8.4 is best.

fishy- i am pretty sure it had TWO reasons that you could get bubbles. your right, one reason was the use of certain chemicals...but the other reason was break in period. i also believe if the venturi part is more than like 3 inches below water it will do it also. sometimes when i top off my tank i will get it a little high and the skimmer will start to produce small bubbles, and i will have to take out a small amount of water. so check that out to if it ever does it again.
