it looks like they can "ink" .. would that pollute the tank .. it seems like it .. also .. would a butterfly eat it .. ha .. seems like my copperbanded would peck him until he "inked" and it would either poison my tank or poisen my butterfly .. what do you think?

I was told they can ink if annoyed, But i run a skimmer and cabon so it will probably be ok, here's the thing i am concerned about, Supposedly they only have a 6-9 month life span! If it dies in my tank will it pollute my system?

yeah probably .. :( .. bad indeed .. I think i'll decide against it and stick with poly-ox .. but anyway .. once it has done its job and cleared out all of your algea why don't you take it out before any harm is done? I would get one but my butterfly would annoy it

Sea Hares are the best hair algae eaters you can buy. Basically they'll eat it nonstop until there's none left in your tank. At this point you need to find some other way to get him algae or give it to buddy with some hair algae. If they have no algae to eat, they will eventually starve to death. Most people that buy a Sea Hare have it die within a few months due to starvation. When they die they will release a toxin but as long as you're running a decent skimmer and you're using carbon this toxin isn't really a problem, just make sure you get the body out as soon as possible! lol All in all, they are definately worth buying! Good luck!!!!

I have had my 2 seahares for over 2 months now, they eat alge strips also. They are great little things to watch, they stick together, and they clean my glass. They can ink, but I have had them ink before, not these two, and they did not kill anything in my tank. Like stated above, just make sure you have a good filter system running.

Yes I have a strong suspicion that your Butterfly would view it as a nice gourmet meal. My Coral Beauty nips at mine once in a while so I'd be pretty worried about a Butterfly. They're cheap though so it might be worth a shot.

I don't belive they sell them, I searched the internet and found a couple of places, But real pricey with over night shipping! Talk to your local fish shop and see if you can order one!

I bought a sea hare and I think he became an expensive meal for my crabs.
Saw him for about 2 days, then nothing again.
