Sponges like dirty water, but as long as you feed the tank coral food it should be alright depending on the sponge. Tree sponges are very hard, but ball and frilly are easy. They can never touch the air so submerge the bag and release after temp acclimate.
They need high water flow and no light so you need a shaded area, they collect algae on them otherwise which clogs them up and they die.
They add allot of beautiful color to the tank. I like them.

if i wanted a tree sponge why are they hard to keep? i also have seen a blue sponge at my local LFS. i thought that was cool i do not have a very high power light its a marineland LED not reef compadable. i have also read that some sponges like moderate light? is that true. and what are some good sponges to keep.

IMO sponges are extremely hard to keep even if the transfer from ocean to DT is without exposure to air. The hobbyist must provide the exact particle size and type of food for the sponge they have and this food is mainly phytoplankton and/or bacteria, and it is hard for hobbyist to supply any great quantity due to heavy filtration by skimmers.

are there any sponges that are easy to keep. the list of sponges i like are the blue sponge, orange fan sponge, flourescent vase sponge, red serrated decorator, multicolored sponge, red ridge, orange sponge, red ball sponge. which ones would work the best?
any other sponges that people like i would be open to aswell.

IMO there are no sponges that are easy to keep, can they be kept yes but it’s almost like having a species only tank with the care they need

I have an orange fan sponge that I have had for 5 years. It has shrunk over the years a little but it's alive, they don't like clean well kept tanks.

You can't keep any kind of sponge with an Angelfish, they eat them. So you must choose which one you want more.
