Sea Urchin

I have a fish only tank run by a protein skimmer. I am thinking about adding a sea urchin. What type should I get and what should I feed him? I only have damsels in the tank right now..........

Try the long spine mine isnt bothered by any of my damsels and he eats the left over shrimp pieces that the puffer leaves behind.

Though they will eat what scraps are left, they really like to eat alge, and you should have a good supply for them. The pencil, and spiny are good. The purple ones are more meat eaters. Make sure your nitrates are below 20, or they will start to shed their spines, and don't do well at all with bad water conditions.

I have a question about the urchins ; do they eat encrusted algea (coralline and others)? Because my friend has three and his coralline is going away. The rocks seem strange, like somebody biting them !!!! Any ideas

Even though urchins are cool, you'll have a bunch of plain rocks pretty soon. They'll scrape them clean of all the good stuff.
