i'm kinda weary of seachem right now, i'm wondering if it's contributing to some red cyano i'm seeing lately. i've been using seachem carbonate, instead of the normal kent probuffer. i just got another bottle of the kent stuff today, but has anyone had experience with seachem and cyano? i'm just wondering if it might be a connection? i know someone else who uses seachem reef carbonate, and has cyano. i've never had this prob till i started using it? any experiences welcomed. thanks.. :)

I've used it in the past and started using it again. Haven't noticed any problems with it yet. Will keep an eye out though.

One thing though, it's kinda frothy and makes my Prizm overeact for about 24 hours after adding.

I've used seachem reef builder / advantage / buffer for well over 18 months now and it has never caused a problem. I've used a small amount of the liquid carbonate but that was over a year ago....the builder does a great job of establishing alk levels and I've never needed to use the carbonate.........but I can say that I am very pleased with the seachem products I do use.

yeah, i'm not too crazy on the reef carbonate, but the other stuff is good imo. i just like the kent liquid probuffer alot better. the stores were just out of it, and ordered the powdered form (which i don't care for). the reef carbonate was given to me as a liquid alternative to the kent, but i don't think it does as much as the kent does. i had to get the store to special order the kent in liquid form. i think i'm gonna stock up on it ahead of time from now on.. ;) :D
any other comments about seachem welcomed, i know irishstout uses it, and he just got over a cyano outbreak, and also, he used freshwater maracyn to rid of it.. anyone else done this? i wouldn't figure this would be reef safe? <img src="graemlins//confused.gif" border="0" alt="[confused]" />

By carbonate do you been the buffer in the orange bottle?? I use the buffer and the reef builder in my 55 and I use Kent Probuffer dKH in my 20, as odd as that sounds. I am not sure which one i like better. Interestly enough the 55 has a real bad cyno problem I have been battling on and off, and although the 20 has only been set up a month there is no sight of cyno. I'll keep using both and see what happens. I have noticed that the Seachem stuff is a little more potent and can raise the pH and Alk faster the the Kent stuff can. I have also used both liquid and powder forms of the kent and agree that the liquid is better and easier to use. Oh, I also drip kalk in the 20 to keep Alk up.

that sounds interesting blondenaso, hopefully you will figure something out using both types. i'm thinking its only with the reef carbonate, and not the calcium or any other product. just a hunch i came up with. sure would be nice to have a lab set up to do some experiments with it :D
my tanks been up for about 10 months now, and i have never had any probs since i switched to better source water. no nuisance algae, and i've never had cyano at all, until now, and the seachem carbonate is the only thing i've done differently. i'll keep ya'll posted on how it does since i've switched back to the kent. thanks again ;)
