SeaClone 100

I just picked up a ASM G1x skimmer and boy does that thing rock my tank! I've got it in a 75gal. It replaced a seaclone 100 which was really just a toy in that tank.
I have a 55 that I'd like to set up and will if that seaclone will be good enough. What do you think of that skimmer on a 55? I'll probably keep it to softies and LPS for the time.

A lot of people will tell you the seaclone is junk. However, I made it work on my 46g for a long time. However, I upgraded to a AquaCUrchin later and boy is it nicer!!

Personally, I'd ditch the seaclone. Invest in something that's actually works like a Aqua-C remora.

That was my feelings. I don't have the money to spend on equipment for other tanks. If I'm going to spend that money it's going to be on my good display tank.
I'm not in the market for a new skimmer. I was wondering what people thought about how well it works.
So it's the seaclone or no tank at all.

Like I said, I made mine work for several months. It collected brown yucky stuff all the time. But I have heard a lot of people have trouble with them. Not me though.
But I wouldn't buy one again... if you have one, use it. It will work.

IMO... Any skimmer is better than no skimmer. I did some mods on one. But it still never really pulled much out. But, any skimmer is better than no skimmer.

Well I ask the question because I need to make a choice. Put it on the 29 gallon that is setup and buy lights for the 29. -OR- setup the 55, use that skimmer and buy lights for the 55.
I don't want to by a 24 inch tec t5 light when a 48 tek t5 light is only $30 more. It'll come in handy much more in the future.

My suggestion would be to set up the 55 and get lights. Upgrading the skimmer down the raod. After all, it wont be long before you set up the 55 anyways. You'll save money in the end this way. And the 29 can make a nice sump/fuge for the 55.

My first skimmer was a sea clone 100 which was given to me. Do the same, give it away to another unknowing reefer, make a new friend.
You can get this thing to work, but I had to always make adjustments on the air intake and clean it alot to get any sort of foam. To much of a headache.

I too started with the seaclone 100, their sales peeps were kind enough to send me the "advanced" air intake hose for free...it was missing when I bought it used from the big

site. It worked great as my first skimmer on my 90 gal. as I was learning the ropes. I upgraded as my tank progressed to bigger and better, but the seaclone 100 did its job, and made me become a 'reef addict'.
For those experimenting with new reef tanks...it does a fantastic job for soft corals like zoo's, leathers, and other polyps/xenia.
To further assist fellow reefers. I paid $54 for the seaclone 100 used, and upgraded to a coralife 220 needle wheel, paid $100 used. Hope I helped somebody as I don't see dollar comparisons that often :)
