I have a prism and mine is quiet, got it on line with the media basket and surface skimmer for $76. its used on a 29g and it works ok, alot of adjusting, but produces nasty dry foam.

i actually just bout the sea clone and it work AMAZING, no airstones or nothing needed, it just wonderful i'm so happy with it. and to be honest my filter is louder then the skimmer, and they are both extremely quite so don't worry about it. and NO DO NOT turn it off at night, usually when i wake up that is when the cup is full of the protein, keep it on 24/7

Grab the clone but do yourself a favor and get a real air valve for it at the same time (little plastic jobber) . The one that comes with it is a PITA. Kind of a threaded plug that isn't real consistant.

So many people rip on the Prism skimmers. Mine came W/the 55 I bought as a complete set up (used). It works GREAT! Yes it does take a bit of tweaking, especially after water changes. But this thing gets out smelly, dirty, nasty gunk that you wouldn't believe is there in the first place. A great way to quiet them down is to put a canopy on your tank. And don't turn it off at night. There is no such thing as over skimming or over filtering!
