Seaclone protein skimmer

Ok, Im sure i already know the answer, but here goes:
Right now I have a canister filter (cascade 1000) and a hang-on wet/dry with venturi (marineland millenium 2000). This is what I am currently using, and trates always seem to be at around 10-20.
I have the chance to buy a brand new seaclone protein skimmer for $75 (usually 170 or so). Is it worth adding to the tank? It says up to 100 gallons, and my tank is only a 60 hex.
I was going to:
1. Ditch canister, keep wet/dry and add skimmer
2. Keep canister and wet dry and add skimmer
3. Dump both and add skimmer
4. Dump wet/dry, keep canister, add skimmer
I would like to keep both canister and wet/dry since i like to add carbon once in a while, and I feel either/both do help reduce particulate-especially having an open top tank with dust etc that settles in there.
Also, is this skimmer ok? I mean, I know it isnt the end all be all of skimmers, but it is compact and will fit in my tiny space where i can have one. All other skimmers i have seen are way too big for my allowable area. In other words, is the $75 worth getting this mediocre skimmer?

if thats the seaclone-100, then $75 is too much. You can get it for $60. You can buy a seaclone-150 for $75.
I have a seaclone-100 and i like it. I always hear how seaclone is a bad skimmer but I have never had any problems with it and it works great. Plus its A LOT cheaper than all of the others.
I agree with you, IMO I would have all three.

I have a seaclone 100 and a fluval 304 on my 30 gal reef and I have no problems at all. I just have to be diligent about maintenance on the canister. I have never had a wet dry filter so i have no imput on them. I use carbon, phosguard, and purigen in my canister with great success.

Is this much better..anyone have one?
Is it loud? Work good or better?

I just got away from a seaclone it did a good job when it worked, mine was very picky from day to day it just wasn't consistant enough for me.
I have a 92G corner bowfront, I now have a Coralife needlewheel super skimmer and it pulls out alot more.

I have a aqua c remora pro with the mag 3. It is very quiet, you definately use a mag 3 or 5 or 7. I am waiting to get a mag 7 for a good deal. I know someone selling a remora with a mag 5 for $150

eskimo...what do you mean by mag5 etc...it comes with a maxi-jet 1200, Is a mag a diff powerhead?

Mags are types of pumps, the higher the number the more they push. MJ 1200's great power heads but aren't strong enough for a skimmer. You want to move as much water as possible. If you handy at all, there are tons of DIY plans to make your own skimmer. Try to get invovled in a area marine club, they are great resources.

If you go cheap go with a seaclone or jebo, if your gonna spend money you might as well spend an extra 100 and go with a needle wheel skimmer like euroreef or asm. You could also think about DIY. Many people make great DIY skimmers and the best part is some are only around 30$. I was thinking of creating a venturi skimmer from a 10 gallon water jug-

I can build just about anything diy, but the tank is the least of my projects that i want to get involved in as far as diy. First i have 193 other projects to do lol.
I just want out of the box ready to go and skim...
I will see if i can purchase with another pump head if you think the mj 1200 is too small.

I just got rid of my seaclone. I don't know about everyone else, but mine always leaked where the cylinder connected at the drop loop. I just picked up a bak-pack and it seems to be doing well.

I have the SeaClone 100 Skimmer, a Magnum 350 Canister, and Marineland 330 biowheel (similar to your wet dry). I am not extremely happy with the SeaClone 100, and IMO it gets the job done, but just barely. I wish I would've invested more $$ in a better skimmer.
I will always have some nitrates (5-15ppm) in my tests. Not sure if it is because of the canister, biowheel, or a combination of both. If you ask around here, you'll probably hear that all that stuff is one big nitrate factory.
Eventually I am going to have lotsa LR, and remove the canister first. I will keep it to buffer the water using carbon once or twice a month. After a while I'll then remove the biowheel, letting the LR act as my biological filtration. I'll do all this once I have about 80lbs. of LR in my 50g tank. So eventually nothing but LR, protein skimmer, and powerheads.

Ditch the biowheel. Keep The canister. I noticed the fish were happier and those hang on filters are too ineffective for a salt water system. Of course that is my opinion, but it makes good sense. ***) ***)

i have a seaclone and haven't had a problem yet but when mine breaks down i am going to get a super skimmer 65. they are not the worst and 75 is a little to high but it depends on how deep your pockets are

The seaclone skimmer is great when you first purchase all your initial equipment and you don't know what you are purchasing. When you get a real skimmer, you will see that the seaclone skimmer is a piece of trash.
Even a coralife superskimmer is significantly better. I have owned both and I tossed the seaclone and the superskimmer sits on my QT tank. For the best bank for the buck, get an asm skimmer. I have an asm g4x with a gate valve and I am using the sedra 9000 as a recirc pump. I feed the skimmer from my overflow. This thing is a beast! and it did not cost me that much....$300 used.
