The system is designed to be held in place by tension or weight. It can be easily removed for cleaning. Everything is inside the tank. It blocks of the back 2.5 inches of the tank. The first ones I made were "L" shaped and I thought they would work, however, Valiant had other plans. The blocked off areas quickly becomes a haven for pods, thus enticing horses to try and get in. The new version completely encases the intake flow-which Bronco noticed would make a nice area to insert a refugium inbetween the 2 intake covers by connecting both intake covers.

An additional thought, maybe the mud at the bottom (well, duh) and chaeto or caulerpa above...sweet for all pods.
