i agree, in my opinion, raising fry in their own tank would be a better way to go, easier to feed and no need to worry about them getting sucked into any pumps or overflows
however, you can use several materials to screen off an overflow or pump, sponge and netting work well

Torno--thanks for correcting me.. I reread my post and it does read as though I was implying to use BBs as a main food staple. I only feed BBS 2 or 3 times a week. The rest of the time my ponies get a variety of foods in addition to the BBS (which is mainly for the mandarin, who on occasion has been to the feeding station like you have described). Sorry for the confusion.

I know a lady who does nothing but breed sea horse. She keeps a guppy breeder divider/tank in the main tank. When the male is about to give birth she scoops him up in there and he gives birth and she releases him leaving the babies in the guppy breeder. This way she does not need a second tank and the fry are seperated from the others so they are not out compeated for food or harmed by other tank mates. This is what I plan to do when I decide to mate seahorse in the future.
