Just sharing experience, here. I will start from the original (and be brief) and go from there. It will hurt me too, so please, just spark me, no flames!
I know a few of us have some thoughts, experience, knowledge on the subjuct of these vertical fish. Please share openly.
My first seahorse joined a tank I should never have had him in, about 15 years ago. A 150 w/ tangs (a nasso, a blue hippo and a yellow), no LR (not even 1 pound). He lived about a year (I still wonder at that!). I basically hand fed him guppy fry. We were both exhausted by the time he died.
My ex now has that tank and it housed fan-tailed guppies for a while and is now empty
3 years after I divorced the 150, after some heavy thought, I purchased a 10 gal and went FW. BORING (sorry).
After more heavy thought, I converted (that's how the guppies ended up in the 150
), and purchased 1 little tomato clown. The one you see in my photos now.
More thought and research, I added my littlest female seahorse, Fin, 2 years later. Upgraded to a 20.
1 year later, upgraded to 55. Yes, that is 2 years with one clown and one seahorse.
I added 2 BG chromis, one yellow damsel and a yellow-tailed blue damsel over the next few months.
Then found my most recent seahorse, Sophia. I estimate that she is 2 or 3, I bought her full-grown and have had her 1.5 years.
The tank is set up for each member. My tank is pretty much ground to top LR. Water flow is moderate and to the back. The area of SB that is open for feeding is plenty of room for the seahorses, but maybe not comfortable for the horizontal fish? The LR is mostly at least 3 years old, some 6 years, lots of pods (happy seahorse icon, here).
I have not had issues with aggression toward the seahorses, the fish seem to think of them as floating rocks; they ignore them.
My story is finished.
